Human Rights Coordinator

Sharon Etokhana is AkiDwA’s Human Rights Coordinator and Irish Research Council Scholar conducting her PhD research on the subject of sex trafficking of migrant women in Ireland at University College Dublin (UCD). She is also the Project Officer for the United Nations Decade for People of African Decent Ireland. Sharon is a human rights lawyer called to the Nigerian bar in 2018 with a master's degree specialisation in human rights law (LLM) from the University of Limerick and a bachelor's degree in law (LLB) from Lancaster University, United Kingdom in 2017. Sharon is a women’s rights activist and a champion against racism. In the course of her advocacy for the empowerment of marginalised communities especially women, Sharon volunteers as the co-chairperson of Young Migrant Women Network, Ireland and is the founder of an online community for women empowerment; Empwr’d. Her passion is to influence human rights policy through advocacy and research
